Love & Desire out 9/9/16
MYZICA, the brainchild of producer Micah Tawlks and singer Isaaca Byrd, is the latest indie pop duo to come out of the Nashville music scene. In the spring of 2014, after a few weeks of tinkering with the bones of some new tracks, Tawlks finished what would become MYZICA’S first song, “Ready Or Not,” in the hollows of his basement during a co-writing session with singer-songwriter Matthew Perryman Jones. He immediately turned to his longtime friend Byrd to lend her voice to the track. Three weeks later, the newly formed duo had finished three additional songs with even more written, and MYZICA was officially born. Last summer the band released their debut self-titled EP, which introduced LP tracks “Ready Or Not,” “We Started A Fire,” “Believer,” and “Wait Just A Minute.” The EP saw press from SPIN, NYLON.com (“shimmering, emotive pop music”), TEENVOGUE.com (“…locked and loaded with contagious songs brimming with creative sound” – ‘20 Emerging Artists You Should Be Listening To’), Consequence of Sound (“Duo prove that pop can thrive in their Nashville hometown”), Culture Collide, and more, while every song landed spots in multiple TV shows – including Pretty Little Liars, Scream, Awkward, and Chasing Life – and even one MARVEL film.
The band has been hard at work since last fall playing shows and finishing their debut LP, Love & Desire. “This record, both lyrically and musically, feels like the soundtrack to a John Hughes film,” says Tawlks. “Inspired by ‘80s and early ‘90s pop, we set out to write a record about love in a time of ‘likes.’ Songs that remind you to ‘just say it.’ That’s what this record is all about.”
